Recommended Roof Rack For A 2016 Ford Fusion SE

Question:

Hi there, I own a 2016 Ford Fusion SE and I am looking to get a roof rack crossbar setup to be able to haul a small boat of mine that is 9ft long and 45 inches wide. Im hoping to find something that fits my Fusion, which has a sunroof, and isnt too noisy or windy when driving.

Hey Alec,

For your 2016 Ford Fusion I recommend the recommend a roof rack from Inno:

Inno Aero Crossbars # INXB138-145
Inno Through Feet for Aero Crossbars # INXS250
Custom Fit Kit for Inno XS200, XS250, and INSU-K5 Roof Rack Feet # INK860

As with any other roof rack option for your vehicle you will not likely be able to open the sun roof while the bars are in place, but if you did the wind/noise from the crossbars would be very annoying. This isn't an issue with the quality of the crossbars, just simply the reality you'll have to live with when using a roof rack with an open sunroof. I've attached a short video below where Ryan will walk you through the installation process and give you a look at this system on a 2018 Fusion.

Thanks for the quick reply, Kevin. I had never heard of the Inno brand before but they sound promising. Just curious, why would you recommend that brand over, say, Thule or Yakima? I've seen those on your site as well. Similarly, I appreciate the aerodynamic nature of these Inno models. However, they don't have any overhang/extra length which I'd prefer for mounting the boat. I'm not sure the 38 in end-to-end space is going to cut it. Last question — while I'm primarily looking for the roof rack for my boat, I'm likely going to be using it for ski/snowboard storage as well in the winter. Does this Inno brand have compatible holders for those as well?

@Alec Inno isn't as widely known as Yakima or Thule but it's a brand that we've found offers good quality at a more economical price point than the bigger brands. I definitely favor Yakima products the majority of the time but you don't always have to spend more to achieve the same outcome. In your situation you likely wouldn't be using the crossbars that often so going with a premium brand would really just be about paying for the name. If you don't mind spending more want a premium brand then I recommend the following Yakima roof rack components: Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425 BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y28TR BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers # Y06110 BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers # Y06102 The Inno roof rack I listed above in the answer page does have overhang. The video I attached unfortunately has a different set of feet so I should have attached the other one Evangeline made on a 2011 Fusion that shows the proper feet. The bars for that roof rack are 54" and 57" in length so you should have plenty of room for your boat, skis, and any other roof rack mounted accessory you have. Inno does offer a few different ski/snowboard carriers, with the Inno Gravity Ski and Snowboard Carrier # INA952 being the smallest. This carrier can handle up to three fat skis or two snow boards. If you need to haul more you can go with the # INA951, which can haul up to six fat skis or 4 snow boards.

@KevinC thanks for the help man, I really appreciate it. I ended up going with your recommendation and can't wait to get it set up on my fusion before summer starts. One last question - does the Inno model have the option for one of the wind visor things that go on the front crossbar? Similar to the ones you see with Yakima models?

@Alec Yes, Inno offers a 40" fairing # INA261 and 48" fairing # INA262, both of which just require a 35-1/2" spacing on the crossbar in order to mount. With your front crossbar being 54" you should have no issue going with the longer 48" # INA262.
